What is World Vision doing to assist the people in the Holy Land?
World Vision's relief and development work consists of: creating jobs and generating income for the high number of unemployed with a focus on women; supporting the agricultural sector; health care; educational projects; rehabilitation of schools, homes and infrastructure; distribution of food, water, medical supplies and advocacy.

What is advocacy and what does it comprise?
Advocacy seeks to increase awareness of justice issues arising from field projects. We try to be a catalyst of ecumenical cooperation. We invite international groups to visit our programs, to carry out research and educate our donor and broader audiences by presenting the issues that our partners and beneficiaries face on a daily basis.

 |
Is World Vision involved in some kind of peace-building effort?
We continue to explore opportunities to get more involved in ending the violence and building peace. At present we perform non-violence training for our staff, we support peace-building with local partners and develop relations with both Israeli and Palestinian peace groups.

 |
Is World Vision assisted by the international community?
Yes, we are. For example, during the last 3 years we received major government grants from the US and Australia for creating jobs in Salfeet, mitigating drought in Gaza and primary health care in Bethlehem.
|
 |
 |
Are private donors involved in the development activities?
Yes, apart from the funds we receive from governments, nearly 10,000 individuals from around the globe sponsor a Palestinian child. Moreover, individuals, churches and foundations donate regularly towards the projects that we run in Old-Jerusalem, West Bank and in the Gaza strip.

Why is your focus on children in the so called 'Occupied Territories'?
World Vision always seeks to assist the poorest of the poor and therefore we work in area's like the West Bank and Gaza. Children are the most influenced and affected by the current situation and political crisis. They are psychologically and physically impacted as they witness violence, killing, imprisonment and the destruction of their homes and schools. The majority of their parents are unemployed and most families are living below the poverty line. Mothers are desperate as they can no longer provide their children with the bare necessities of good food, water or basic health care. Many children no longer attend school.

What makes World Vision's work effective and sustainable?
We work with Area Development Programs. Clearly defined areas, integrated activities and local representatives are the keys to long-term success. Need assessments rest entirely on the communities' willingness to participate as equal partners with World Vision. The local people are the owners of the program and are responsible for carrying out projects and activities.
