Romania: Still Paying the Price

Up to 19 million children are suspected to be working fulltime in Pakistan, often in unsafe circumstances*. Despite the risks of abuse and exploitation, as breadwinners for struggling households, they are worth more as labourers than they are as students. Without an education and life skills they have no hope of breaking free from poverty and realising their full potential.

From courageously sharing their own stories, raising awareness on human trafficking, or advocating for peace in their violent societies; children and youth across World Vision's Middle East, Eastern European and Central Asia region are changing their world. Hear their voices and join them in making that change. Two years as an EU country and 20 years after Communism, home-alone children, farmers and the 1 in 4 children attending high-school in rural Romania, continue to pay a heavy price; often the price of hearts. Where Education Can Kill You Where Education Can Kill You
On one side of Afghanistan’s battle lines, girls and women flock to schools. Not on the other side though.
On one side of Afghanistan’s battle lines, rural girls and women flock to schools, learning to read and write, something denied them for centuries. On the other side, education is off limits to females. Girls shackled by illiteracy and tradition are usually married and mothers by the age of 14. Daring to teach girls in one of the dark zones can cost you your life.
Child Brides Child Brides

Past history and present hardships mean more and more Afghan girls married before they turn 12.
