In rural Western Afghanistan, the typical diet consists of flat bread, tea and occasionally, meat. Vegetables are often limited, resulting in deficiencies of important vitamins in the local diet. For growing children, pregnant women and nursing mothers, these limitations can be seriously damaging to health....

World Vision Afghanistan would like to provide vegetable seeds ("Veg-Paks") to 250 women in 50 groups of 5, as well as provide advice on how to grow them.
Due to the seriously limited rainfall in the project area in Badghis Province (only 300 millimetres of rainfall a year, primarily during winter), we would also like to provide drip irrigation kits to ensure that growing vegetables get enough water to survive and thrive.
Women will not only be able to provide vitamin-packed vegetables to their families, but they can also choose to sell vegetables to local markets for income generation. This project also aims to help improve the status of women in Afghanistan's traditionally patriarchal society.
