Oghi’s environment is degrading at an alarming rate. Natural disasters, unabated deforestation, and people’s unsustainable use of natural resources took a high environmental toll in the last ten years. The local Forestry Department documented a 35% increase in the cutting down of the forest trees. Rivers, streams, and grasslands are equally affected by population pressure, which leads to increased soil erosion, high occurrence of landslides and flash floods. Unless a behavioral change happens, the environmental situation will only worsen.

World Vision will carry out an environmental education campaign, as an extra-curricular activity for primary school children. The ultimate goal of the project is to increase the level of awareness about environmental issues, and empower children to take action on issues that affect their environment.

Children can adopt a specific natural resource (river, patch of forest) as their environmental project. Through nature clubs meeting they will plan an implement activities promoting responsible environmental behavior. Children will share their ideas with other members of their communities through posters, paintings, plays, and songs.
